Mark started playing Table Tennis in High School and was very active at Pennsylvania State University. After a hiatus of almost 24 years, Mark started playing again in 1988. Mark's highest rating has been 1857. In 1997 Mark was certified as an USATT Regional Assistant Coach through Christian Lilleroos' course. Mark is a USATT Umpire. Mark has successfully coached many students of all ages. Mark was the 1994 U.S. National Champion in the Under-1500 event and Runner-up at the 2001 U.S. Open in the Under 1800 Seniors (Over-40) event. Mark has served for 9 years as Vice President of the Portland Table Tennis Club. We really should refer to Mark as Dr. Mark Kobernick. Dr. Kobernick has a PhD in English. The Salem Table Tennis Club is very pleased that Mark is willing to act as our Head Coach.
